Skyland Pla-net Inc. has entered its 25th year in the world of film and video. Starting in the mid 1970's with a Toyota Car Commercial shot in British Columbia, Skyland Pla-net has expanded to a variety of projects with locations in many parts of the world.
Martin Yokota, a partner in Skyland Tours Ltd., began to take over the requests for production services in the mid 1970's . Skyland Canadian Film Co-ordinating Services was founded , catering exclusively to film production requests from Japan. With the increase in more complex and diverse projects, Martin created his own entity in 1989 and formed Skyland Pla-net - an all-purpose multi-media production company and creative Planning Networks.
Over the years Skyland Pla-net has grown into various areas of the film and video world. Starting with production co-ordinating in Canadian locations for commercials , TV documentaries and magazine shoots , Skyland Pla-net expanded in the late 80's to line-producing and production managing High Definition Television projects (HDTV) throughout North America. Vision Unlimited was formed as a division of Skyland Pla-net to serve the special needs for HDTV. Vision Unlimited became a key figure in the production of programs for the HDTV Japanese market, the only place in the world that was live broadcasting at that time.
Skyland Pla-net's credibility grew in the 1990's as a superior production service company. Along with growth, came the diversification in locations. Now from the mountains of Nepal, to the running rivers of Chile, to the high Canadian Arctic, Skyland Pla-net people have been there. Commercial clients are essential to Skyland's portfolio however each year Skyland is involved in a number of high quality TV documentaries. One such documentary program co-produced with Skyland Pla-net and CR Nexus in Japan won the prestigious Japanese Grand Prix award for the "Best Documentary of the Year in 1999".
Skyland Pla-net continues to expand and experiment. The future holds further exploration in new and exciting projects in worldwide destinations as well as further discovery in Skyland Pla-net's home base, Canada.
